Very interesting. What about Geico? My understanding is that much of the money used in BH investments is the “float” from insurance policies

Correct! More on that in another article. In short: Berkshire has full or controlling interests in businesses (such as GEICO, General Re, BNSF Railway, and Berkshire Hathaway Energy) that generate cash flow. That cash flow is reinvested into buying other businesses outright or minority interests in them. All the businesses in this article are minority interests of Berkshire.
